5 Eco Friendly Flip Flops for Summer

Summer is not officially here yet but I am already wearing my flips out and about. They’re easy, just slide them on and away you go.  And, I kind of like the sound they make when I walk.  But since my dog chewed my black pair the other night, I started looking for a replacement pair but of course I wanted them to be “green”.  I found five eco friendly companies that are making some really great thongs out of some very interesting materials and being environmentally conscious all at the same time.

Sanuk – Yoga Mat Wedge,  I am in luv.  A squishy sole that feels like marshmallows under your paws, and it has a little heel for those of us that are vertically challenged.  Sanuk has a full line of men, women and children’s sandals and shoes.  Plus their Operation Smile and Rasta Projects are reaching for eco greatness in my book.  You can see all their shoes and learn more about Sanuk here.

Teva – Mush Madalyn Wedge  I have worn Tevas for years.  They are comfortable, stylish, and they last.  Teva has been around since 1984 and have a passion for water, hence their project,  A Pair for a Foot.  Teva has a full line of men, woman and children’s flips, hiking and casual shoes.  You can see more about their water conservation project, the environmental initiatives and their full line of shoes here.

Patagonia – Women’s Flip Around – A completely recyclable flip flop, it is made from a minimum of 10% post manufacturing scrap.  This is the quintessential flip flop for summer, coming in pink, black or grey. You can see Patagonia’s full line of shoes and learn more about their environmental efforts on their website.

Feelgoodz – Slimz Iris – Okay so it’s pretty well known fact my favorite color is black but the deep purply color in this little flop may be my new best friend on the color wheel.  A relatively newcomer on the thong shoe block Feelgoodz flips are made out of all natural rubber, from the rubber tree.  They are completely biodegradable – when you are finished with them you can chop them up and put them in your compost pile.  Pretty cool.  You can see the full line of men, women and way cute kids flip flops here.  While you’re there you can read about how Feelgoodz was born.  It is a great story.

Okabashi –  I didn’t know too much about this line but after seeing the flips are not only stylish and comfortable but also dishwasher safe, I was sold.  Okabashi thongs are 100% recyclable in your own back yard if you choose.  They are anti-microbial – bye bye stinky feet and made in the good ‘ole USA out of 25% recycled materials.  If that isn’t enough to get you to take a look at their website, the great styles will.  My fav in the line, The Wave Sunshine Print.

Keep your feet cool, stylish and comfortable this summer with some environmentally friendly flip flops.

Be eco beautiful.
