Go Green America TV – 10 Reasons LED Light Bulbs will soon replace the Swirly bulb (CFL)

Let me go on the record saying that CFL’s, the little swirly bulbs, are better than the old incandescent bulbs when it comes to saving energy, and according to the Wall Street Journal, there has been a 300% increase in sales of CFLs over the past two years. What that tells me is that people want to save energy, they want to Go Green, However, let me say that there is a better choice on the market if you truly want to Go Green! New LED bulbs are on the rise as the green bulbs of the future and the replacement for CFLs.

Here are my top ten Reasons to make the switch to LED light bulbs

1. LED’s are Safe (non toxic) – Although energy efficient, CFLs contain mercury, a toxin associated with birth defects, brain damage and other disorders. That’s why CFLs can’t be thrown in the trash — they have to be taken VERY CAREFULLY to a haz-mat recycling center. LED’s on the other hand contain no mercury or other hazardous materials.

2. LED’s Reduce cooling costs — LED bulbs put out very little heat so no more burnt fingers, and lower cooling bills

3. LED’s reduce maintenance costs — lasts 35 to 50 times longer than incandescent lighting and about 4 to 10 times longer than fluorescent lighting. No bulb-replacements, no ladders, no ongoing disposal program.

4.  LED’s last for Up to 50,000 hours – What is 50,000 hours? It is 50 times the life of a typical incandescent bulb and 5 times the lifetime of an average compact fluorescent lamp (CFL). The long service lives of the LED lamps reduce trash volumes and conserve resources.

5. LED’s have excellent color quality. The shade of white light appears clear and consistent over time. LED light bulbs can fulfill an array of different purposes and functions. LED’s come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. They can replace most any light bulb that you currently are using. Furthermore, their size and power-saving characteristics allow them to be applied to new and innovative areas. Some common applications of LED light bulbs include: flashlights, exit signs, traffic lights and signals, remote control lights, Christmas lights, and more! There is certain to be an LED application that will serve your needs.

6. LED’s are better for the Environment- As one of the most energy-efficient light bulbs on the market, LED lights are better for the environment because they reduce your carbon footprint, LED lamps distinctly reduce CO2 emissions and thus counteract the greenhouse effect and do not leach poisonous mercury into our water systems. Changing just one single bulb keeps one half ton of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere through its life cycle. They are also 98% recyclable

7. LED’s reduce energy costs — uses 60%-90% less energy than incandescent lighting, saving on operating expenses.

8. The LED is durable — won’t break like a bulb.

9. LED’s have no off-state power drawThe fixture does not use power when it is turned off, with the exception of external controls, whose power should not exceed 0.5 watts in the off state.

10. LED’s do not give off UV rays – because Led lights emit no damaging ultraviolet light, they will not cause fading and aging of artwork or other sensitive materials and they do not attract Bugs, try putting an LED bulb in your outside light, you will see a significant drop in the bugs outside your front door,

I will admit that LED lighting seems a bit costly right now, but as we make the switch and there becomes a demand for them, the prices will drop considerably! In fact prices are already dropping as more companies get into the race to make the best LED replacement bulbs. The technology is getting better, the quality is getting better and the prices are dropping.

The fact is that even if you paid the highest price available the LED light bulb with it’s energy savings and long lifespan will actually save you money over the life of the bulb!

For every light bulb that you change you will put Green in your pocket, the more you change the more you will save!

If LED’s were implemented now, universally, it would reduce the need for over 30 existing power plants!18953a1d-7957-42a8-b314-c9d5a5e0964e_300

please see this link for Earth Day with info on an amazing new LED for under $10 that is fully dimmable with existing standard dimmer and looks great, I have the warm white in my kitchen can not tell the difference from the incandescent that it replaced until I get my electric bill : )
