Go Green Pregnancy – 5 tips for a Healthier Baby!
Green pregnancy: A global shift – Guest Post Authored by - Rubela Jhonnie
With so much focus on green living, it is not surprising that this has also become an important factor even during pregnancy. When you are pregnant, you automatically tend to live healthier for the sake of the baby growing inside. Many women tend to live a life of green habits during their pregnancy by giving up the unhealthy lifestyle. This is to protect the baby from all unhealthy pollutants and unnecessary risks of daily life, so they switch to organic products and active recycling. Apart from this, there are many other ways that you can help towards making the world a more eco-friendly place for baby to live in. There are some steps that you can take during pregnancy so that your baby grows healthy within you.
1. Filter your drinking water
Always filter your drinking water and do not use plastic containers or bottles for storing your water. Use a glass for drinking and glass containers for holding your water. Plastics can degrade either from cold or heat, and leach out toxic chemicals, which are harmful for you and baby. Keep your water bottles clean and sterile and your drinking water away from any contaminants.
2. Cut the chemicals from your diet
Eat plenty of organic vegetables and fruits which have been thoroughly cleaned in filtered water. While you may enjoy a lot of veggies and fruits, you should know where they come from and if they had been chemically treated. These are not good for you and baby, so be cautious while buying your supplies. Cut down on red meat and choose lean meat, that are free from antibiotics and other hormones.
3. Use biodegradable cleaning products
Choose cleaning products that do not contain ammonia, bleach and any other harmful chemicals as this will help in maintaining a clean indoor air supply. When you breathe in clean air, remember that baby is getting the benefit of this. Open windows when weather permits, to let in fresh air.
4. Having a clean shower
Install a water filter in your shower as this will help in cutting back the chlorine and other additives which come from municipal water supplies. Since the skin is porous, chlorine can easily get absorbed into the blood stream, likewise chlorine in the hot water you use will evaporate and you will inhale the toxic fumes. Chlorine can also dry out your hair and skin which is also very unhealthy while you are pregnant. You can use recyclable replacement cartridges for your shower heads when you install a shower filter in your house. The filter is available for as low as $33.48 and the cartridges start at $18.50 at water savers companies online.
5. Use organic beauty products
Choose lotions and creams and even makeup which are organic during your pregnancy. While you are pregnant, it is best to avoid nail polish remover and nail polish as they contain harmful chemicals, which are toxic when inhaled. Try to go in for a weave rather than coloring your hair and avoid hair colorants which contain coal tar. Weaving does not allow the color to touch your scalp and that is relatively safer.
These precautionary steps will not only keep you healthy and glowing, but will do wonders for your baby as well as the environment.

Cinda Wood • Would love to add a little here. High good fat and low carb with good probiotic would raise vitamin d levels and 60% of the brain development depends on good fats. Veggies are great but Braum’s whole milk or raw if from perfect source would be better.
So many new baby diseases are associated with gut flora which is passed from Mom to baby at birth. If your viewer cannot afford stabilized aloe vera whole food supplements, tell them to cut a small piece of aloe and only eat the inner parts a little each day. Research shows with enough mannose (aloe) in the body, bacteria cannot attach to the cell walls.
I would also highly recommend the study of baby vaccines and choose only the ones most necessary at birth. Dr. Stephanie Seneff has proven these are the major cause of birth defects and all because baby’s immune system is not up to par. You will certainly understand why so many babies are highly alergic to things like peanut butter because they use the oils in some vaccines and also in some they use aborted baby tissue. A sin – yes. This grandmother would like to kick someone every time I think about it.
Do not take prescription baby vitamins – some babies have been lost to them. They are made from chemical companies and the test is put them in the oven for 10 mins at 350 degrees – if coal tar comes out – throw in trash. Supplements are needed and the best are whole food supplements – hard to find but possible.
Good water is a must but no one takes into account that babies bathed in city water with floride is harmful. Babies are small – so save RO in five gallon bottles – heat part on stove and add to baby tub until baby is older.
Go to cornucopia.org to find the best baby formulas. You cannot believe what they are getting away with in the mixes.
Thank you for the great comment and all the wonderful added info Cynda
Much appreciated!!
I didn’t know that about aloe! Very interesting! Thanks. Another thing to mention as to why it is important to eat organically and stay away from chemicals, specially during pregnancy is that these toxis are absorbed by mom and so by baby. The chemicals mom absorbs is also passed on to baby through breast milk!!! We absorb the good and the bad and just like narcotics or other drugs, chemicals in cleaners, our food, etc. will accumulate in our children if we expose ourselves and then breastfeed. I am in no way saying don’t breastfeed – that’s a different topic all together. I am saying to know the whole truth and then decide what is best for you! Here is the blog from which I got this info. http://www.promotinggoodhealth.com/2011/01/
