Green Benefits of LED Lighting
Changing just one light bulb in your home is a start when it comes to saving the environment. There are many green benefits to making that new light bubs an LED light bulb. The fact is that by changing one of your regular incandescent light bulbs to an LED bulb, you can help to protect the environment and save money. LED lights last up to 60 times longer than a regular incandescent bulb , they are four times more efficient and use 80% less energy, which puts Green in your pocket as well as helps create a greener, cleaner environment.
LED lighting cost a little more upfront per bulb (we will talk about saving some of that cost as well in another post) but you will save in long-term operational costs as well as replacement costs. By replacing one 75watt bulb with it’s LED equal, you will save 570 kilowatts of energy over the life of the bulb. This could save you as much as $50 on your energy bill. LED light bulbs will easily pay for itself in its lifetime.
Also the fact that regular light bulbs put carbon dioxide, sulfur oxide and nuclear waste into the landfills and atmosphere. LED bulbs are 75% recyclable, and safe as they contain no harmful gases. By replacing your light bulbs with low energy LED bulbs , one single bulb keeps one half ton of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere through its life cycle.
Think about this, if every house in the United States switched to LED lights, we could shut down as many as 90 power plants. Really!
Going Green does not have to mean changing your whole way of life, start with the little things, it can be addictive. Especially when you start to see that you are saving money while saving the environment.
