How To Get Beautified… NOT Toxified!

Cosmetic companies are some of the worst when it comes to nasty chemicals in their products….and in our opinion are at the BOTTOM of our list since they don’t disclose anything that is in their products! You have no idea what you are slathering all over your lips, your eyes, what kind of chemicals in the powders and creams. It is important to be aware that ingredients in cosmetics surprisingly are NOT REGULATED BY LAW, there are no safety requirements and they do not have to report to anyone. In fact, because of Major gaps in public health laws, cosmetics companies are allowed to use almost any ingredient— even proven toxins like lead, and mercury. Hundreds and hundreds of pounds of substances that are recognized as toxic by environmental law are added to cosmetics. If you were to dump just 10 pounds of these chemicals into the environment you would have to get permission but not if you were going to make a foundation from it! Crazy isn’t it!

Just to give you a quick overview of what you are likely exposing yourself to if you are using the popular cheap AND expensive brands of makeups:

Lead- A known neurotoxin even in the smallest amounts. There is no “safe” amount of lead. Crosses the placenta and passes through breastmilk

Mercury- A known neurotoxin even in the smallest amounts. Crosses the placenta and passes through breastmilk

PAH- Chemical common in petroleum jelly or Vaseline called PAH- (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) are found in 1 of every 14 products on the market. 15% of all lipsticks and 40% of baby oils and lotion have been found to contain this product.

Parabens- Suspected carcinogen. Found in breast cancer cells.

Phthalates- “fragrance” chemicals. Linked to birth defects, reproductive disorders, and a long list of other issues.

And the list goes on and on! Hundreds of ingredients are found in these products. This is why it is critical to purchase safer cosmetics, lotions and soaps. Not only to reduce your exposure to these chemicals, particularly during pregnancy, but to support companies who are doing the right thing! Companies are driven by profits…if we only purchase safer products, companies will make safer products …not for our health but for their bottom line!
