With the winter creeping up on some of us rather quickly, it is a good time to discuss what metal items you should keep a look out for to make an extra buck during the holiday season by bringing them to a scrap yard. While people may not put some of these items on the side of the road, be sure to always ask around if people need help cleaning up.

Warm Up This Winter With A Green Heart Recycling Your Metals!

Being aware of some of these seasonal items that may be damaged or lying around this winter can allow you to recycle them for cash to help pay off those bills!

-Busted! - Plumbers are especially busy this time of year due to frozen pipes. Many times homes or businesses will get hit with such a brutal cold snap, that their water pipes or sprinkler systems are frozen solid. While sometimes the copper pipe is salvageable,  most of the time the pipes burst and cannot be used again. If you have a plumber work on your pipes, kindly ask to keep the copper pipe and other metals like brass so you can recycle it.

-String Those Lights! - We all love this time of year when we are stringing up the holiday lights (not), so while you are going through your decorations, look out for some revenge. Many times holiday lights are broken or damaged while taking them down or putting them away for the year. If you have a set of holiday lights that don’t work, keep them aside for your scrap metal recycling pile. Many scrap yards will buy and recycle your holiday lights as scrap copper wire.

- Holiday Ornaments - While decorating this holiday season, you may come across some extra decorations, like ornaments, platters, and more. If you have some metal decorations that you don’t want collecting any more dust, check with your local scrap metal yard and see what kinds of material they accept. By cleaning out your extra decorations, recycling the metal, and making money doing it; it’s a win-win-win!

-Who Needs An A/C? - Before the big cold, many homeowners take out their A/C window units and put them away for the winter. Sometimes they can be damaged or broken, if so be sure to keep them for the scrap metal recycling yard. Scrap yard will buy them from you as a whole unit and will make sure the material is recycled properly.
So whether you are decorating for the holidays, saving money for the new year, or paying off your credit cards with toy charges, be sure to look out for these scrap metal  items this winter and do your part to recycle them right! Happy Holidays!

Great suggestions. I never would have thought about saving damaged Christmas lights and selling them as scrap. Thanks!
