Garden of Eve Lotions

At Organic Baby University we are always stressing the importance of choosing safe products while you are trying to conceive and while you are pregnant. Anything you put on your body is absorbed by the skin and enters your bloodstream, therefore potentially exposing your growing baby to any product you may use. MANY chemicals in traditional skincare and other types of products contain a long list of chemicals that have been linked to birth defects, reproductive, thyroid and other disorders, cancer and more! Scary! Don’t think it is in your product because they advertise as “non-toxic”, “safe”, “organic”, or other terms that lead you to believe it is a safe choice? You may need to think again! Take a look at the back of your bottle…do you see parabens, fragrance, perfume, EDTA, polysorbates, and a long list of other scary sounding chemicals? If you use a popular brand or one with these ingredients (and a list so long it is impossible to include in one blog), your product probably isn’t as “non-toxic” as you may think!

When it comes to lotions, we stress that this is a top priority to switch to a safer option as it is slathered all over your face and body, and is specifically designed for maximum absorption. It can be tough to find chemical-free products that really work and moisturize well without being greasy or icky. This is the purpose of our Products We Love blog series! There are quite a few safe products out there these days, but there can be huge feelings of frustration (and expense!) when trying to find products that actually “work”. Well, we have a good option for you!

Garden Of Eve Clearly Lovely Product LIne

Garden Of Eve Skincare products are a line of products that we discovered and have been using for several years. They are individually, handmade in small batches by a company that is passionate about providing safe and quality products without nasty chemicals. Their entire line is made with organic aromatic essential oils, herb extracts and hydrosols of exotic herbs and flowers such as Rose and Jasmine. They also use ingredients like organic oats, seaweed, sunflower oil and more. They have a full list of all the ingredients they use in their products on their site so you can review everything with full disclosure which we just love. Nothing weird or scary on their list! Just ingredients you can recognize and can be confident in putting on your skin. Each product has their Skin Deep database ranking for toxicity next to it and all we have seen rank a zero!

They have a wide array of different types of face and body products but we want to focus on their face lotions and body lotions today! The first we want to talk about is their line made especially for pregnant mamas called the Expectantly Lovely line! Yay! We love when companies focus on this group of ladies who are trying to keep their growing babies safe from toxins…and are really making safe products rather than “greenwashing”. This line was specifically designed with the safety of the baby-on-the-way in mind. They are organic, vegan, cruelty free and designed for sensitive skins. Garden of Eve offers two lotions, one lightly scented and another that in free of scent. To get an extra spa type experience, spritz the Expectantly Lovely Toner on your face after applying the lotion…nice!

Another line that they offer that is safe for all moms, including pregnant moms (and even babies!) is their Light and Lovely line. These are face and body lotions and even a super moisturizing face soap called Facial Cleansing Nectar. The lavender cream is safe for newborns and can be used on those common, stubborn baby rashes like eczema and psoriasis.  It contains kukui nut oil which is reported to sooth these conditions. So if you are looking for a non-toxic soap, face, baby or body lotion that is moisturizing and healing, we highly recommend them! Try them out and let us know what you think!!
